July 18, 2014

Hello Everyone!

I wish I could call home and answer everyone's questions! There just seems like there is no time for rest! We are on the go all the time including my brain. I have so much to talk about but when I sit down to email I cannot focus!

I miss everyone! I think about you all the time and I have to admit I cry sometimes. I thought it would be easy like college but that is not the case. I could call or skype whenever I wanted but now Email and when the time comes I cannot focus.

Well, Just a quick glimpse of this past week. I have gotten some referrals and love having the opportunity to call and chat with people online. My memory is getting better with remembering the history of the Pioneers and the buildings. We have seen tons of wedding pics the past 2 days and the SLC Temple has been closed since I got here and will be closed for 2 more weeks. Those silly Mormons! lol

I passed off for driving so I can drive! There are now 2 drivers in our Zone and 20 Sisters so I have a feeling I will be busy! Also I passed off on giving tours so I am "officially" a Temple Square Missionary!  Hurrah     (Since she passed off for giving tours she gets a free meal from the lion house!!)

We get 8 hours of explorer day and we are finishing the last 4 hours on Monday! Yay! We still have a lot of places to visit!   (I have no idea what she is talking about explorer day... guess that will be another question for her!)

We attended the Bountiful Temple this morning.  We left at 6! And I drove my district! We were so tired but it was beautiful! I cried just a bit, I am so blessed and I see miracles every day!

Oh mom, a worker came up to me and just hugged me and said I have been looking for you. I was like that was nice, then she explained who she was - Cathy Smith - your wedding reception was held at her house. Cool Cool. So many people that just come up to me and tell me that they know you!

So tonight we are going to see the Pioneer Concert with Prince HANS!!!!!! So excited!! We have so much to do and not enough time but it keeps us on our toes and helps us remember why we are here serving a mission.

We took a tour yesterday, there were about 25 people. No one referred but 2 cried and we know that they were touched by the Spirit.

I love the Sisters here ~ we are a great bunch!

Thank you all for the Love and support it means so much!

Love Sister Tuckett

Called to Serve!!

***In other smaller emails she mentioned that she has already worn through the soles of her favorite shoes and another pair hurts her feet so she is needing more shoes already!

She requested that we send her printed "talks" because she doesn't have access to a printer... so if you have a favorite talk from past conferences I am sure she would love to get a copy of it from you ... maybe you could write a little note on there telling her how you feel about it and the impressions you received while reading it.

The big group picture I sent out the other day,, was the afternoon group of sisters and Abby was in the morning group... so she wasn't in it!  No wonder I couldn't find her!

My cousins, Lori and Barry, were able to see Sister Tuckett this week!

They went to Brighton Girls Camp this week and did the ropes course.  Here are a few pictures from it.

Sister Tuckett and Sister Moran

Here is what I received from a friend ~ Cathy Smith ~ who Sister Tuckett mentioned in her letter above:

"Tender mercy at the temple this morning - I was left in initiatory 20 minutes longer than I should have been - went into wash my hands and a whole lot of Sister Missionaries were there. I said I knew of a Sister Tuckett from Oklahoma - they said she's here today. I said tell her hi from a Sister Smith but when I walked out I was prompted to walk over to the prayer roll - 4 sisters were writing - 3 were likely Asian and one not - I waited for the one not to turn around and you know who it was. I told your sweet daughter I was joining in the Where's Waldo with the Jenks ward - then explained who I was. If I hadn't been left in initiatory the extra time our paths would never have crossed. Great to see her  :) "

July 11, 2014

Hello!

On the Fourth of July we had a cook out!! It was so good!!! Hot dogs ~ best ever!!!  They were the J Dogs (a place in Provo). All of the Sisters wore red, white and blue. The day before in R.S. the lesson was over the Restoration and about having religious freedoms and how God prepared this country and people for independence.

When we write our emails we either go to the Joseph Smith Building or the Church History Library across the street right next to the Conference Center. So there are tons of computers for us to use.

Meals ~ we mostly make our own meals but we cannot go home to make them.  We have a large kitchen in the Mission Home/Office where we can make them. We haven't personally had the chance to eat out much just because we are so busy.

Mostly the tours we take are Spanish but this week has been better. We took another large group (35).  They were mostly members but 4 of them were not and one couple was from Australia.  So sweet!! They didn't refer but you could tell they were interested.

I had exchanges with my district leader yesterday and it was so fun! I learned some different things on how to teach and such. She is the best. Her name is Sister C... from Taiwan. This is her last transfer here. :( She is a wonderful missionary and I am going to miss her.

So much to do and not enough time to write but I will leave you with this. A mission is not easy ~ it's hard. But having a great companion is a blessing. I have learned that not everyone wants to hear our message. It's not discouraging because I am not doing my part ~ it's heart breaking just knowing what they are missing out on. And also, that it takes time to become a better missionary, change doesn't come all at once.

I love this gospel!  It has changed my life and I know it can change others.

Love you ALL!!
Sister Tuckett

Sister Tuckett has also had a few visitors!  My cousin, Beverly, Richard & JoAnne Henry, the Bingham's, and Lindy Echeverria.
Here are a couple of pictures....

I sent her a letter with a bunch of questions... here are her answers:

What time do you have to be on Temple Square? 10:15 am

How long are you there? Usually 7:45 pm

Are you on the go all day long? Yes, walking all the time and finding people or we may be in the Teaching Center- where we take the calls and chats from Mormon.org

What is your favorite tour to do? I like pretty much anything now that I am learning the facts, but I love showing God's plan for the family.

Have you been able to go to the Salt Lake Temple yet?   No I haven't. The temple is closed until Aug for maintenance.

How is the memorizing coming along? It's getting there.  We are "guides" for telling the history but our goal is to always teach the doctrine of Christ. Some people think all we do is give tours, but we are regular missionaries that use preach my gospel but we are special ~ we get to use visuals.

My zone will get to go to the Bountiful temple soon.
We have girls camp tomorrow by Park City and we will be doing a ropes course.

Hello!!

Wow this first week has gone by so fast!! My zone is North 3, so we work mostly on the square just talking with people and giving tours. A couple of hours a week we work at the information desk just answering questions and we do TC which is teaching center, just answering chats and calls for mormon.org.

Mostly outside walking around!!

Last Sunday we had Brother Clayton and his wife from the seventy come and talk during sacrament and they talked about our potential and marriage which was weird since we are on missions. Lol

It is so nice to see so many sisters. I am making a lot of new friends. :)

I have been opening up more and learning a lot of history. We have mostly given Spanish tours. Not too many English. But it is fun to see the people’s faces light up when my companion is talking to them. I have felt the spirit many times.

We gave an investigator tour on Wednesday with the Elders. The family was mother, father, (both around early 30s) and 2 young children. The mother was baptized when she was 11 and the dad was just baptized 5 years ago and they have been less active since. It was fun! We showed them God's Plan for the Family video and the Christus. They didn't seem too interested but the Elders said that they were, so we will have to keep in touch with them.  :)   We talked about God's love for His children and eternal families.

So finally we gave our first tour and there were about 15!! We started at the Assembly Hall, then the TAB (tabernacle) where we did the pin drop and finally the Christus. I felt the spirit. In each area we talked about the history of the buildings but we also talked about the doctrine of Christ. This cute older lady came up and started asking all these questions about Brigham Young and Joseph Smith. She kept apologizing because she thought her questions were silly. Lol.  Anyway, I bore my testimony about Christ and I also threw in the Bible and Book of Mormon.... Well, guess what!  I gave away 2 Books of Mormon!!! At first I was so scared to give a tour but it was really awesome!

Oh and my companion and I pray to see miracles everyday and I can say that we have them!!

Heavenly Father does bless us!

Transfers are every six weeks and we can serve in different areas but I will be with my companion for 12 weeks and probably the same area.. the square :)

Oh, so we got paid on Wednesday so the Zone leaders wanted to eat dinner to get to know me better. Anyway, one prayed that someone would pay for our meal while we were walking and I made fun of her, well our meal was paid for by a sweet woman and her daughter! One of her daughters is serving a mission. I now know not to laugh.

Oh, on the flag pole tour we were doing the pin drop and I turned on the wrong music... oops! Lol!   I had to laugh that one off.

Oh and Mother.... we can have family visits 1 time a year. We get to spend two hours together. The first hour is giving you a tour and the other a meal. Sooooo cool huh?!?!?! If you don't visit I might have to give it Lanely and Geoff. ;)   (((((((She better not!  Going to try to plan a visit!!!))))))

The mission is fun and we get to meet a lot of people, but my favorite is having the spirit with me the whole time!!

That's all the time I have to write!!

I love and miss you all!!

Sister Tuckett :)

P.S. My zone is going to see Prince Hans on the 18!!

((((The guy who does the part of Prince Hans in “Frozen” is performing with the Tabernacle Choir))))

***In another short email Abby sent the following:

So I also saw your cousin, Beverly, at the beginning of the week! She is super sweet.
So we can listen to any church music, lds artists (like Hilary Weeks, Afterglow etc..) and Disney. Would you get me some cds?? The hymns are nice but I like music that has words with it. PLEASE!!??
Also can you give me some recipes like chicken enchiladas, tortilla soup and some other ones. They want us on our p-day to make a lot of food for the next week in advance.
Oh and after my mission I am going to England to visit sis Freeman!!
